I blame my cousin Mike...
Back home in Gibraltar, Mike and his wife Dinah's family dog was a large AirdaleTerrier many, many years ago called Melvin.
Now I was very amused by this fact because he didn't look like a Melvin, it wasn't a name I associated with dogs. However, it was because it was so wrong that it was right!
He was a wonderful looking pooch, majestic, well groomed and friendly.
So, as I got to know him better, I concurred 'He was a Melvin, through and through'.
When I set out to develop my book Melvin The Hairy Frog, A few years back, I started to ponder on my meeting with Melvin, the family dog and as I was still tickled by his name, I made it my mission to develop my Frog hero, his name would be Melvin as a homage to my canine friend.
Melvin The Hairy Frog has taken a while to come to fruition and now it's out there, I obviously urge everyone to get a copy and read it to their child, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, pre-school and older.
Melvin The Hairy Frog is like getting a huge virtual cuddle, an embrace full of love, tolerance and forgiveness... Humanity from an amphibian..
