As well as writing a few books, I have had a long career in the NHS and a few years with #AZ
I was a #Respiratory #NurseConsultant for many years and led some very effective services, working with some great people until I was acutely ill in March 2018 and had to retire early.
I still keep in touch with colleagues, maintain my registration and clinical skills as well as working with #icusteps #harlow. I am their #treasurer.
Anyway, I have chaired many meetings in the years before illness.
Anyway, although used to chairing meetings it's been a while so I was twitchy when I suddenly ended up chairing the #zoom meeting this evening.
As the meeting flowed. It was like second nature and I enjoyed the meeting.
The group are a great bunch of #ICU #survivors like me relatives and members of the #MDT.
#Peersupport at these meetings is invaluable, it is also what drives me.
When one is first discharged from ICU, the common sense of being broken is shared.
Broken but not irreparable... Slowly, piece by piece and with support, we ease that sensation and replace it with #coping.
So, if you'd asked me two and a half years ago that I'd be chairing a meeting again, I'd have put money against this!
If you know anyone who needs help and has been in ICU as a patient or relative.. Point them to their local group. It will help.
